On 23 December 2021, the opening defense of the thesis of the 2020 undergraduate master's degree students of the School of Politics and International Relations was successfully held in classrooms 602 and 604 of the Student Activity Centre of Chengguan Campus. The opening defense was divided into two groups, and each group was composed of five experts in the discipline or related disciplines, and the principle of supervisor avoidance was adopted. Professor Jiao Yiqiang, Professor Wang Sihai, Professor Li Jie, Professor Zhou Ming, Associate Professor Chen Yi, Associate Professor Ma Guolin, Associate Professor Wei Jinshen, Associate Professor Yang Chenbo, Associate Professor Zhou Changxian and Associate Professor Li Yibin attended the defence and acted as judges. Dr. Jin Xiaozhe and Dr. Sang Pu served as the defence secretary.

At the opening defence, the teacher firstly read out the process of the opening defence. After that, 29 master students made detailed presentations to the defence judges on the basis of their thesis selection, research background, research content and innovation. The defence judges gave serious and detailed guidance to each student according to his or her specific situation, and made targeted and constructive suggestions for the revision of the students' thesis.

The dissertation opening and defense meeting was a standardized procedure and strictly implemented the relevant regulations of the university and the college. It was a stage summary of the students' choice of their dissertation topic and research work, which helped them to clarify the advantages and disadvantages of the topic chosen for the master's degree dissertation and the future writing direction.
