From 13-15 May 2022, the Asian International Model United Nations (AIMUN) 2022, hosted by the School of International Relations of Peking University, was held online. As one of the highest scale model conferences for university students in China, it attracted more than 500 delegates from prestigious universities at home and abroad, including the Academy of Foreign Affairs, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University and the University of Malaya.

The conference covers a wide range of topics, including security, sustainable development, migration and refugees, and humanitarian aid. 11 committees have been set up, including eight in English, two in Chinese and a main information centre. The conference aims to embrace a global perspective, promote cultural exchange and explore common dreams from an Asian perspective.

One delegate and two observers were selected from our university to participate in the conference, namely Guan Heng (delegate), an undergraduate student of International Politics, Class of 2020, Zhang Xue (observer), an undergraduate student of School of Resources and Environment, Class of 2021, and Shao Wenxuan (observer), an undergraduate student of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Class of 2021.

During the three days of the conference, our students spoke enthusiastically and consulted actively, demonstrating the youthful diplomacy of Lanzhou University students with brilliant speeches, flexible post-conference diplomacy, practical academic preparation and document writing.

In the European Council, our student Guan Heng, who represented the ECB President's seat, gave an outstanding performance on the issue of the reform of the UK-EU relationship, putting forward feasible proposals and policy recommendations based on the ECB's basic position on economic issues such as European economic integration, the construction of the single market, sound monetary policy and UK-EU financial supervision. He played a unique and key role as a representative of the EU institutions and was awarded Outstanding Delegate.

Participating in this conference was both the first time that our school organised students to participate in a high-level Model United Nations event on a national scale and the first time that Lanzhou University won an award in this kind of event. In addition to the hard work of the participants and organisers of the event, the outstanding achievements of our students in this competition could not have been achieved without the strong support and encouragement of our academic staff, instructors and students in the related activities.

In the Beijing International Model United Nations, the delegates from Lanzhou University continued to shine, leaving a good image of professionalism and self-confidence to the modellers from all over China. It is believed that the students of Lanzhou University will be able to surpass themselves and achieve further success in the Model United Nations and Model Diplomat events to come.
