According to Russian media reports, on March 18, local time, the multilateral talks on Afghanistan were held in Moscow, Russia. During the talks, representatives of the Afghan government and the Taliban agreed to speed up the peace negotiation process. The analysis shows that although there are positive signals in the peace process in Afghanistan, the road to peace in Afghanistan is still difficult under the background of continuous violent conflict, unclear prospect of US troop withdrawal and intensified game among various factions in the country.

Zhu Yongbiao, director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies at Lanzhou University, pointed out in an interview with the People's Daily, the Afghan peace process has been deadlocked, and the Doha agreement has not played a practical role. According to the agreement, May 1 this year is the deadline for the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. The Afghan policy of the new administration of the United States has attracted much attention. During this critical period, all parties have paid more attention to the issue of Afghanistan.

"At present, it is quite difficult to achieve a long-term cease-fire and formulate a road map for peace in Afghanistan." Zhu Yongbiao pointed out that the main problems in Afghanistan are still within the country, and it is difficult to solve them through external force. For some time to come, the Afghan government and the Taliban still need to compete on the battlefield to gradually achieve a relatively satisfactory result at the negotiation table. The state of "talking and fighting" will continue, and the Afghan peace process will continue to be troubled.
